Is it nonsense to be afraid of undergoing surgery?

Are you saying, “I’m afraid of undergoing surgery?” Very normal. Of course you should be afraid. I’m sure you’ve heard many horror stories from your mother, your father, and even your grandparents. At that era, the fear from surgery was still a fear that kept people alive, just like in the earlier ages. At times when any modern hospitals, operating theaters, right anesthetic techniques and antibiotics were not discovered yet – even in the absence of electric light; operations were performed while drenched in blood. Patients used to write their testimonies before entering the operation theater and say goodbye to everyone.

But now we live in the 21st century. Look around you; you’ll see it right away. Now it is time to leave an archaic fear that has only such an historical significance. Fear for surgery today is as old and meaningless as fear for darkness. Most surgeries can be done with a risk close to zero. All your rights are also under legal protection. Moreover, contrary to many other areas; Turkey has the sixth rank in the world especially in the scientific field of neurosurgery. Patients come from European countries to be operated upon by me.

So, do not fall into the trap of malicious people who are acting on your fairly natural feeling of fear. For the folks who say “Do not undergo surgery!”, and especially if they are surgeons; ask them if they can perform this type of surgery. Do they mean, “I cannot perform this operation” actually, while saying “Do not undergo surgery” and could they be having difficulty in hitting their inadequacies? If you are talking about such a complaint, a really experienced surgeon, especially a university professor who is known for the operations he has done, then take what he says seriously…
