Neurosurgeons step in if pain cannot be relieved with medication, physical therapy or traditional-complementary medicine applications. We’re the last resort. There is no pain that we cannot stop.
Neurosurgeons may choose to surgically severe or destroy nerves that cause pain, or they may prefer to implant a permanent battery or drug pump to the spinal cord of the patient. In other words, rather than eliminating the pain; they are actually preventing the patient from feeling the pain. So, if we cannot cure the disease causing pain; we can improve the quality of life by curing the pain itself.
Here is the message I want to give: Pain is not your fate, you do not have to try to get used to a painful life, do not try to accept your pain. Neurosurgeons may relieve even cancer pain.
