The “neuronavigation” system, which is now widely used; is a navigation system such as GPS used with the aid of satellites in the open sea, through the reconstruction of the pre-operative images in the operating room in a real-time and 3D environment. Thus the neurosurgeon is able to see on the screen which area of the brain is being touched at the moment. Thanks to this system, for example, many small tumors in the brain can all be removed safely, i.e. microsurgically without giving harm to the patient.
With the ultrasonic aspirator device that uses sound waves; during surgery only the tumor tissue can be disintegrated, but normal brain tissue and vessels are not damaged. There are also many other devices of modern medicine; such as ultrasound and MR devices which are used for imaging the tumor during surgery, diamond tipped drill (motor) and saw that can easily strip the skull bone away, surgical microscope that increases the surgeon’s vision capacity 40 times, endoscopes that can show behind the corners, microscopes that can color the brain tumors in order to make them more visible, etc. Thanks to these up-to-date technologies used in the tumor removal stage, brain surgery can now be performed with high success rates.
