Be comfortable! But everywhere, and always! I mean, even when sitting-lying or working. Is this possible? Yes, because remember; you are at the center of your life, everything must be arranged for you and according to you. Your desk’s purpose is just to help you work comfortably on it, not to look nice. The purpose of your chair is again to allow you to sit comfortably on it, it has no other purpose. Neither does your bed, your car’s seat, etc. They must all be ergonomic, so they should be right for you.
This is the case at least in today’s civilized societies that have taken humanity at its focus. It is already determined by ergonomics how you should be able to work in the most comfortable way and which environment is suitable for you to relax. What you should do is to ask your employer to provide office furniture with such features, or your manufacturer to procure products that meet these standards while purchasing those items.
It is known that one quarter of all job accidents occur while carrying something. Accident risk when lifting and holding some weight is determined by environmental variables such as the weight of the load, horizontal and vertical holding distances, asymmetry angle, lifting frequency, clutch classification etc. Ask your workplace physician to train you in these matters. For example, sitting for more than two hours a day without supporting the feet, to work by twisting, tilting, kneeling, or permanently hands and arms over head permanently damages your back. Do not also forget that, a third of the back problems and a considerable portion of neck problems are actually in the occupational disease group; and in many civilized countries they are now the subject to workers’ recompensation cases.
